Raised in Oldenburg, Hamburg advertising photographer Marius Engels has lived and worked in the Hanseatic city for almost 10 years. As a self-taught photographer, he took up an assistant position with a renowned German star photographer in 2009. During numerous trips abroad, he familiarises himself with the realisation of major international productions. After six years, he ends his cooperation and concentrates on expanding his contacts to creative people and decision-makers in the industry.
In the beginning he photographed musicians for record covers, but soon followed orders for advertising campaigns for the Italian luxury manufacturer "Furla" or the traditional French brand "Moët Hennessy". Today the focus of his work is almost exclusively on fashion, beauty and advertising photography. However, his special talent for portraits regularly brings him musicians and actors in front of his camera.
In his motifs, Marius Engels pursues a pictorial language that often seems timeless, and in the composition emphatically classical. He himself sums up his work as follows: "I create illusions. It is a craft process in which I create my own aesthetics from light and form, which corresponds to my idea of perfection. My goal is not to depict reality." He attaches great importance to professionalism in his productions and also has a special weakness for light. He is supported in his work by a long-standing team of stylists and assistants. For its customers the Wahlhamburger is active at home and abroad.
