Leica – Experience From Over 150 Years Of Development
In 1894, Carl Kellner founded this traditional company of the optical industry in Wetzlar. Under Ernst Leitz the company was expanded and in 1913 Oskar Barnack built the world’s first 35mm camera, the so-called Ur-Leica. Today, Leica lenses are created with the knowledge and experience of over 150 years in the development of optical instruments.
Each individual lens undergoes numerous production steps and quality inspections, must be able to stand up to the judgement of experts and pass the most stringent precision controls. No wonder that Leica lenses have become synonymous with quality “Made in Germany”. In this short documentary film, Leica shows how the hand-made lenses are made and what is important in manufacturing.
