As was the case last year, stern is announcing a scholarship for the coming year 2014 as part of its programme to promote young photography talents. For the second time, the Hamburg magazine under the auspices of the Art Direction offers an outstanding up-and-coming talent the opportunity to publish their own works and gain work experience.
During the period from 1 August 2014 to 31 July 2015, the fellowship holder will be a permanent member of the editorial staff and, together with the editors, will not only take a photographic but also a journalistic look at current events - both at home and abroad. The focus here is on modern portrait and reportage photography.
Promoting young talent is part of the stern tradition
“The discovery and promotion of new talents in the field of photography is of great concern to us again this year. In particular, the positive response to the work of last year's scholarship holders, Frank Bischhof and Philipp Spalek, confirmed us in our decision to again advertise the young talent promotion program”, says stern Art Director Johannes Erler. Dominik Wichmann, deputy editor-in-chief of stern, also emphasizes this statement: “It is part of the self-image and tradition of stern to discover talents and to offer them a forum for their work”.
Apply for a scholarship place
From now on, talented photographers - who have a degree in visual communication or a comparable course of studies that was completed no more than one year ago at the time of application - can apply for the stern-Scholarship Young Photography at www.stern.de/jungefotografie. The deadline for applications is 15 January 2014.
