He Is A Gentleman Of Fashion: Óscar de la Renta

Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.

Óscar de la Renta

He is regarded as one of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th century and created a global brand whose value was last estimated at 150 million dollars. At the age of 82, Óscar de la Renta succumbed to his cancer, but his career is unique and still a role model for creative people in every industry.

Elegance and sexiness characterize de la Rentas handwriting

The Spring/Summer 2016 collections were presented in New York in mid-September. Peter Copping was also there - and showed his third collection for the fashion house Óscar de la Renta. About a year after the death of the internationally acclaimed fashion designer, Copping designed a collection that bears his signature but would also be more than typical for the Dominican-American couturier. Red carnations were de la Rentas favourite flowers. They are also used in the new collection: prints and appliqués adorn a feminine silhouette, while elegance and sexiness characterise the collection.

Copping thus takes up the beginnings of Óscar de la Renta. He got to know the Spanish variant of haute couture when he emigrated to Madrid at the age of eighteen and after studying painting at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando learned his craft from the designer Cristóbal Balenciaga. In 1960 he moved to Paris, three years and some work experience, among others with Lanvin, later he moved to New York. In 1967 Óscar de la Renta finally founded his label of the same name for clothing and perfume. Even after he sold his company, he remained chief designer. In 2014, the first collection under the direction of Peter Copping was to be created in close collaboration with de la Renta.

Óscar de la Rentas last wedding dress

Óscar de la Renta devoted himself above all to women, to successful women. Whether politicians like Hillary Clinton, lawyers, business women or numerous actresses like Angelina Jolie and Sarah Jessica Parker - de la Renta knew how to dress them all. Matching her style, position and character.

One of his last works was the wedding dress for Amal Alamuddin, the wife of George Clooney. Of course, it was celebrated all over the world, and finally came from the pen of Óscar de la Renta.

The fashion designer has been awarded several prizes by the CFDA, among others for his women's fashion and his life's work. Óscar de la Renta's greatest legacy, his label, will be continued and next spring we will see another piece of it at New York Fashion Week.

The best thing about fashion is that it goes on and on.
