Erik Spiekermann: Putting Back The Face Into Typeface
The German video magazine gestalten.tv talks to the German designer and typographer Erik Spiekermann about new visual languages, design processes and the analogies of music and typography.
Erik Spiekermann founded the agency MetaDesign, among others, which he left in the summer of 200 due to differences. Together with his wife, he launched what is probably the first online store for typefaces, the FontShop, in 1989. In 2009 he founded the agency edenspiekermann_. Furthermore Erik Spiekermann is one of the most recognized experts for classic typefaces on an international level. Only recently he won the German Design Lifetime Achievement Award 2011.
In “Puttin Back the Face into Typeface” the design enthusiast Spiekermann talks about the lettering of the past in contrast to today’s work on the screen, about the connection between idea and material and much more. As expected from gestalten.tv, once again a great interview.
