DeskBox Workstation: The Perfect Desk For A Small Apartment
A small, decorative workstation that hangs on the wall – that’s the DeskBox. The minimalist, yet clever space-saving wonder offers two different ways of use: closed as a cube or unfolded as an extended workstation. The DeskBox is based on the parallel mechanism of earlier sewing boxes, which the Dutch furniture manufacturer Arco had in its range many years ago.
The DeskBox was designed by none other than the design duo Yael Mer & Shay Alkalay, who are known with their label Raw Edges Design Studio for extraordinary and changeable furniture and interior ideas.
The DeskBox combines good looks with a sophisticated function
As friends of the unexpected, the two became known shortly after their studies at London’s Royal College of Art with a motley drawer system Stack, whose individual tiers can be pulled out in different directions. They have also designed for the traditional Arco, for example Pivot, a sideboard leaning against the wall.
But their current design is once again convincing with that certain something: With the DeskBOX, Yael Mer & Shay Alkalay succeeded in successfully symbiotic modernity with traditional production techniques of the furniture manufactory. This was also seen by the jury of this year’s iF product design award 2013 and awarded the two designers with the “interior innovation award 2013 – Best of Best”.
