Mathias Gerhard “Tias” Eckhoff was one of the most versatile designers in Norway. With his designs he contributed significantly to the development of the term “Scandinavian Design”. He was also one of the pioneers of industrial design. Tias Eckhoff completed his studies at the Norwegian State University of Applied Arts in 1945 with a diploma in Ceramic Art. In 1962 he designed the first “Maya” cutlery pieces for Norstaal and also worked for Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik.
